Earlier today, during some scheduled maintenance, we upgraded the servers with some new features that Amazon announced earlier this week.
Three of our server instances (the app server and the two Gluster servers) were upgraded from the m1.small instance to the new m1.medium instance. The upgraded instances now have twice the CPU power and twice the RAM, which is important for the Gluster servers as the are also the Memcache servers.
Nearly all of the servers where also upgraded from 32-bit to 64-bit platforms; which adds bit more more responsiveness and and pep to all the servers.
This upgrade constitutes the fourth generation of the SimpleWeb server platform. Each generation has had a set of Amazon CloudFormation files for each server and with those CloudFormation file all server resources can be launched, in order, with a single script. This feature of the fourth generation of the SimpleWeb server platform was also tested successfully today.
