One of the most complex orders is on that had release schedules. An inside sales person not only needs to find out the which and how many items a customer is interested in, but how many they want released and on what date. This usually takes at least a phone call or two if not a lengthy email message detailing exactly what the customer wants.

What if the customer input the release schedule themselves?

Your customer already knows what they want and when they want it. They are already going to spend their time explaining this to your inside sales person and they may create an email explicitly detailing everything you need to complete the order for them. Then a person needs to take that information and input it into Prophet 21.

Why not use the time that the customer is already going to spend explaining and creating an email and allow them to create this complex order themselves?

SimpleWeb includes the Line Schedule Import

The SimpleWeb shopping cart allows users to assign release schedules to any item in their shopping cart. They can assign up to 20 release dates and the associated quantities.

Once the release dates are setup they continue through the checkout process like normal and SimpleWeb include the Line Schedule import file with the rest of the import files for that order.

This feature allows your customers to create complex orders with line item release schedules from their own computer whenever they want and your inside sales staff can focus on other issues that are just as important.

Earlier today, during some scheduled maintenance, we upgraded the servers with some new features that Amazon announced earlier this week.

Three of our server instances (the app server and the two Gluster servers) were upgraded from the m1.small instance to the new m1.medium instance. The upgraded instances now have twice the CPU power and twice the RAM, which is important for the Gluster servers as the are also the Memcache servers.

Nearly all of the servers where also upgraded from 32-bit to 64-bit platforms; which adds bit more more responsiveness and and pep to all the servers.

This upgrade constitutes the fourth generation of the SimpleWeb server platform. Each generation has had a set of Amazon CloudFormation files for each server and with those CloudFormation file all server resources can be launched, in order, with a single script. This feature of the fourth generation of the SimpleWeb server platform was also tested successfully today.

This update added persistent shopping carts for logged in users and details pages for Locations.

Persistent Shopping Carts are for logged in approved users so that when they leave a SimpleWeb site they will be able to recover their shopping cart when they return and log back in. This is the first step towards saved shopping carts which is part of our Express Checkout feature.

Detail pages for locations allows you to create an article specific to each location and present them on the front end of your websites. This is great for showing images and maps to your different locations and is a step towards allowing users to purchase from specific locations.

Here is the change log for SimpleWeb 1.2.3:

  • Add Location table to refresh list
  • Create list and detail pages for "Published" locations
  • Create article interface for editing locations
  • Add save_cart table to App Server
  • Create persistent shopping cart for logged in, approved users
